Interview Date[]

Unlocked after obtaining Victor: Reluctance, Victor: Piece of Cake or Victor: Exchange Secrets. Requires Lv.??? intimacy.

Finally, it's my turn. I'm too sick to say a word after praising Victor. What should I do? Can I still be exonerated?

Expand for Section 1.

Interviewing me? I'm not exactly camera-shy, but I don't make a habit of appearing on screen, either.

  • Today is a special day. Our company is shooting a show together with LFG.
  • It's actually an interview for online media of LFG's new CEO, Victor.
  • It's just a typical interview, but given that some of LFG's employees may appear on camera...
  • ... everybody's dressed up for the occasion.
  • Especially Goldman.
  • Goldman: Look. I rented this suit. It's nice, isn't it?
  • MC: It's just a little interview. You're dressed too formal.
  • MC: (Shocked) And you're wearing a vest inside?
  • Goldman: This interview is a matter of the company's prestige.
  • Goldman: As the assistant to the CEO I have an image to maintain.
  • Compared to Goldman's, my clothes were... a tad plain.

Expand for Section 2.

I'm dressed in a Plain Jane when even Goldman is spiffed up! Hope no one notices...

  • I rubbed my stomach. It was that time of the month. I definitely wasn't feeling like my best self these days.
  • MC: Luckily I didn't have to appear on camera today.
  • At that moment, the cinematographer ran over to me.
  • Photographer: Here you are! I need to tell you that you're gonna be on camera today.
  • MC: Today! But... But I'm not feeling all that well today...
  • Photographer: You just have to say a few sentences, praising Victor's abilities, etc.
  • Photographer: I need to talk to the CEO too. See you later.
  • The cinematographer left lugging his heavy camera.
  • Goldman: What's wrong with you today? Is it something you ate?
  • MC: Umm... I...
  • Goldman suddenly gave me a look of understanding. I just hope that I'll perform well in front of the camera.
  • Half an hour later, the shooting started.
  • Victor showed up. His suit was very eye-catching.

Expand for Section 3.

Why, God, my period just come?! I don't care about having my soul ripped apart, come take every last piece as long as it's painless! But I've totally ruined it now... Why do I have the knack for screwing things up?!

Expand for Section 4.

Victor looks so dashing when he buries himself in work! I'm pretty sure his colleagues all feel the same way. We might complain now and then, but everyone in LFG is all in it together.

Rainy Day Date[]

Unlocked after obtaining Victor: Right-Hand Person, Victor: Rainfall Rendezvous or Victor: Tender Moment. Requires Lv.2 intimacy.

Victor has always been tough and resolute; never thought he has a soft side. His gentle smile looks nice.

Expand for Section 1.

Everyone in LFG is gossiping about Victor hooking up with someone. They said he keeps calling the same woman and whispers sweet nothings to her.

  • I was at LFG again for a work related issue.
  • The person who received me was Victor's assistant Goldman, and the first thing out of his mouth was--
  • Goldman: Did you hear? Victor has a girlfriend now!
  • MC: Are you sure?
  • Goldman: The whole company knows about it! Someone heard him talking extremely gently to a woman on the phone.
  • MC: Did you hear them?
  • Goldman: No, I just heard about it from others.
  • MC: So how do you know it's a woman?
  • Goldman: That's what everybody is saying!
  • Goldman: A lot of them have seen it and heard it.
  • MC: Well, I wouldn't go around spreading stuff like this. What if Victor overheard you?
  • Goldman: You're right! People around here do nothing all day but gossip!
  • MC: Umm...
  • Goldman: The meeting is starting soon. Let's go.

Expand for Section 2.

I'm curious, what kind of girl would make someone so serious like him be attracted to?

  • In the elevator, several female staff were talking.
  • Female Staff A: Did you hear yesterday? Victor was calling his girlfriend again!
  • Female Staff B: My friend heard it. She said Victor's voice was very gentle, very affectionate.
  • Female Staff C: What did Amy hear?
  • Female Staff B: Amy said--
  • Victor: I dreamt about you last night, though your face was a little blurry.
  • Victor: Yesterday I met a Frenchman. French is a beautiful language, but it's more beautiful coming from your mouth.
  • Victor: I heard there's a new French restaurant. Do you want to go?
  • Victor: I know... you've been very busy...
  • Victor: I don't want to disturb you.
  • Female Staff B: That's it.
  • Female Staff A: Geez, I never thought Victor had a soft side like that. I really feel for him.
  • MC: (Sigh) ...
  • Does Victor really have a girlfriend?
  • I thought of that incident I saw in his office...
  • Chik: (Like claiming territory) HE. IS. MINE.
  • Victor was frowning and his tie was a bit loose. I couldn't tell what he was thinking.
  • It was the first time I saw Victor look panicked.
  • He made me promise not to tell the others.
  • A trustworthy person like me would never tell.
  • I took out my phone and looked up Chik's latest status updates.
  • MC: Woah... She's really in France now.
  • Somehow I felt empty and sad.

Expand for Section 3.

I've never seen Victor so sentimental like this. I can't tell which is the real him: The one who would stop at nothing to save a small animal, the one who just gave me his umbrella at the expense of himself getting soaked, or the one who spoke so romantically on the phone.

  • I went to Victor's office nervously. I knocked on the door.
  • No one responded for a long time.
  • MC: Victor, I'm here to submit the revised report.
  • No reply.
  • I tried to turn the doorknob, and the door just opened...
  • I tiptoed in. Victor had fallen asleep.
  • He looked as meticulous as usual, even in his sleep.
  • MC: He must be exhausted...
  • I had never seen Victor as tired as this before.
  • I guess it's because of that...
  • Victor: What is it?
  • MC: What? You're awake?
  • Victor opened his eyes and looked at me. I looked away.
  • Victor: What is it?
  • MC: Well... This is the report about the program overhaul!
  • I handed it to him and lowered my head.
  • He eyed me for a while before taking it.
  • Victor: Don't engage in idle speculation.
  • What? Well, he doesn't look like a man who has a girlfriend at all!
  • The afternoon meeting was held as scheduled.
  • Victor: Who else would like to add any changes to the shows?
  • In the meeting room, Victor sat in the seat farthest from me.
  • I stared at him silently.
  • His shirt cuffs were rolled up as scrupulously as usual. His poker face made you think that all the people in the room owed him money.
  • The sleeping Victor must have been an illusion.
  • It was late at night when the meeting ended. And it started to rain.
  • I stood at the gate of the LFG building and sighed.
  • MC: Looks like I'm going to get drenched again.
  • At that moment, a black car pulled up beside me. The window rolled down, exposing Victor's stony expression.
  • Victor: The rain won't stop till the morning. Get in. I'll take you home.
  • MC: Really? Thank you so much!
  • I sat in the passenger seat, searching for something to talk about.
  • MC: Do you stop time like this a lot? Or just on rare occasions?
  • Victor: I don't do it unless it's necessary.
  • MC: But the last time I saw you stop time, you saved a cat in the middle of the road.
  • Victor: That's just a special case.
  • MC: A special case?
  • MC: It seems that you prefer animals to humans.
  • Victor: Of course, animals are much cuter than humans.
  • MC: ...
  • Animals are cuter? Most of the time, I guess so.
  • We reached my home quickly. Victor took out an umbrella and opened the car door.
  • MC: Keep the umbrella. I'll be fine.
  • Victor shook his head and insisted.
  • He parked his car at the curb and walked me home in the rain.
  • MC: Why don't we share the umbrella?
  • I felt so sorry. He took me home, gave me his umbrella, and now he was getting all wet.
  • Victor: Hang on, I got a call.
  • The rain was getting heavier, but Victor walked forward heedlessly, ignoring the rain falling on him.
  • Victor took the call. His voice changed. It became extremely gentle.
  • Victor: It's really pouring today. Can you hear it on the phone?
  • Victor: I just knew you would tell me that I should use an umbrella...
  • He chuckled.
  • MC: Huh?!
  • Is that for real? Did Victor just chuckle?!
  • Victor: Does it ever rain like this in France?
  • MC: (Dumbfounded staring)
  • Victor is so good-looking when he smiles.

Expand for Section 4.

The drenched Victor looked like apathetic wet cat without a thread of dignity. But I'd like to cheer him up since he was so nice. Hey, why are you giggling?

  • Victor turned around and met my gaze.
  • Victor: What are you looking at?
  • MC: Ah! Nothing...
  • MC: It's raining too heavily now. Why don't you come up to my place and dry your hair.
  • MC: Uh, I feel sorry for getting you out in the rain like this. I should have taken an umbrella with me...
  • Victor: Okay, fine.
  • I was a bit embarrassed looking at my small but cosy little apartment.
  • MC: I didn't have time to tidy up. I hope you don't mind.
  • Victor: It's okay.
  • I rummaged through the bathroom and finally found an unused towel.
  • And I put on a kettle of hot water for him.
  • When I came back to Victor, he was asleep.
  • I got up closer to him. There were raindrops on his eyelashes.
  • I stood next to him, not knowing if I should wake him up or not.
  • Victor: (Suddenly his eyes open) ...
  • MC: (Surprised) You woke up so soon!
  • MC: Here you are... It's a brand new towel.
  • Victor: Thank you.
  • Victor looked like a drowned cat, his majestic air all gone.
  • I was still groping for something to say...
  • MC: Honestly... Don't get too discouraged if she's being stand-offish. If you keep putting yourself out there, it'll pay off eventually.
  • Victor: (Looking at me confusedly)
  • MC: I think she must already like you, or she wouldn't talk to you on the phone every day.
  • Victor: Don't think you know everything.
  • Did I say something wrong? Did I make him unhappy?
  • I was just trying to comfort him...
  • Victor stood up after drying his hair. He folded the towel and handed it to me.
  • Victor: I should go. No need to see me out.
  • MC: Oh... Alright...
  • I took the towel dejectedly. Victor was still staring at me.
  • MC: Did... Did I say something wrong again?
  • Victor let out a sigh.
  • Victor: Don't be afraid of me. I don't eat people.
  • MC: I'm not afraid of you. I was trying to comfort you.
  • Victor: Why?
  • MC: Because I know you're going through a tough time with a long-distance relationship...
  • Victor: ...
  • Victor: (Suddenly smiles) Okay. I'll keep that in mind.
  • MC: Seriously, trust me. You guys both love each other, so don't doubt your relationship.
  • MC: (Am I great or what? He's smiling again!)
  • MC: (He's smiling at me!)
  • While I was still contemplating his smile, Victor left.
  • I couldn't help chuckling when I thought of his smile.
  • MC: He looks really handsome when he smiles.

Date in France[]

Unlocked after obtaining Victor: Inspection, Victor: A Beautiful Mind or Victor: Buy. Requires Lv.??? intimacy.

'Even if it is difficult, I will not give up.' It's not just a lead actress' line of an idol drama; I must impress Victor!

Expand for Section 1.

Mastering French in two months is as inconceivable as going around the world in 80 days in the past.

  • Victor tapped on the wooden desk with his index finger, one hand on his chin, surveying me.
  • Victor: This figure is...
  • MC: (Nervous)
  • Victor: I need to think about it.
  • MC: Why?
  • MC: Have you looked at the application I submitted? Our company really needs this...
  • Victor: You are not the only company that LFG invests in. Besides, the event requires French proficiency.
  • Victor: Do you speak French?
  • MC: (Lowering my head sheepishly) No...
  • LFG is going to hold an exchange event in France with a French filmmaking company they cooperate with.
  • If I can participate in this event, our company's name will certainly be in the headlines.

Expand for Section 2.

But even though it's nigh impossible, I still have to give it my all. Who knows what may happen?

  • I came to LFG with high hopes, only to end up defeated outside the gate.
  • MC: This is not over!
  • I felt frustrated and sad. I just couldn't accept it.
  • MC: I could hire an interpreter...
  • MC: Why can't I go?! No, I won't accept this!
  • Victor: Shh, other people will start to wonder if you keep talking so loudly.
  • Victor: Victor showed up behind me suddenly, freaking me out.
  • I looked around. Everyone was looking at us. I jumped behind the pillar quickly to distance myself from Victor.
  • Victor shook his head and walked into the building.
  • I ran for a few steps to follow him.
  • MC: French, right? I'll start learning it right now!
  • MC: I am going to this event!
  • Victor: You only have two months.
  • MC: Wait and see!
  • I talked like the female leads in my TV shows, but unfortunately I don't have their astounding luck.
  • I stayed up late at night, studying French. My eyes all blood-shot.
  • MC: Why hasn't someone just invented one common language for the whole world?
  • I vented for a minute, but then quickly put the negativity aside.
  • MC: I'd better spend more time on learning new words.
  • MC: I will not yield to Victor!

Expand for Section 3.

Victor might have given me the resources for the banquet out of the goodness of his heart, but what I really wanted is the assignment to France! I'll remember this, Victor!

  • I basically lived with that French book for the following two weeks.
  • I studied it or watched French instructional videos whenever I had a moment.
  • All my spare time was devoted to French learning.
  • I even hired a French national to be my assistant. All she needed to do was to chat with me in French.
  • But no matter how hard I worked, just like always something comes along to knock me back down.
  • LFG Staff: Didn't you hear? The person who's going to France has been chosen.
  • LFG Staff: Victor hand-picked her. Apparently, she's a real beauty who knows four languages and has traveled all over the world.
  • I was in an elevator holding my new French textbook in my arm when I heard about it.
  • MC: I thought I still had a month and a half.
  • LFG Staff: But right now, there's no better candidate than her.
  • LFG Staff: You'd better give up. Even Victor doesn't think that it's possible for a person to learn to speak French in two months.
  • I glanced at the book in my arms, feeling stunned.
  • I didn't think it's possible, either. But...
  • You don't know what you can do if you don't try.
  • I called a cab. It was still light outside. I sat on the stairs munching a sandwich and reviewing the words I learned yesterday.
  • MC: D-e-b-u-t. A first appearance.
  • MC: Debut.
  • At the same time, Victor was leaving the building.
  • At the gate of LFG, he saw me sitting on the stairs, studying words and eating a cold sandwich.
  • Victor: ...
  • MC: Sce-na-ri-o. A script.
  • Victor: You're pronouncing it wrong.
  • Victor's voice startled me.
  • He sat next to me. I turned to him.
  • MC: How do you walk without making any noise? You scared me to death.
  • Victor: Are you still studying?
  • MC: What do you think? I'm not the kind of person who gives up so easily.
  • Victor: What if I told you the person going is about to be decided? Would you still be trying so hard?
  • MC: You said 'about to', which means it's not settled yet.
  • Victor: What if it's settled?
  • I don't know if Victor is joking, but I am not happy when I hear it.
  • MC: Then I'll keep studying. I am not the kind of person who leaves things half-finished.
  • Victor: (Looking at me for a long time) ...
  • Victor: Are you in a hurry to leave?
  • MC: What's wrong?
  • Victor: Come with me somewhere.
  • Victor ushered me into his car.
  • He brought me to a clothing store full of gorgeous clothes.
  • I picked out one casually and took a look at the tag.
  • As I expected, the clothes here are all high-end stuff, a status symbol of the upper class.
  • I looked at the beautiful clothes, bemoaning the evils of capitalism.
  • Victor: Choose one.
  • MC: Choose one?
  • Victor: You'll have to have a decent dress for the event. Or do you want to appear in a magazine dressed like this?
  • I get all excited when I hear the word "event".
  • Is Victor going to be kind and let me attend the event?
  • MC: Okay, that settles it!
  • A beautiful salesperson took me all around trying on clothes.
  • We both took a liking to a pink dress. The salesperson said it suited me quite well.
  • MC: How about this one?
  • Victor: Not bad.
  • MC: Then I'll take it.
  • I looked at the tag on the clothes. Very high-end and obviously not easy on the wallet.
  • I took out a credit card. It was expensive, but I felt lucky just having the occasion to buy it, thanks to Victor.
  • As the head of the company, I should have some nice clothes for all kinds of occasions.
  • I just didn't know if I had enough balance on my card.
  • Victor looked at me curiously.
  • Victor: I better get this.
  • Victor took out his black card and gave it to the salesperson.
  • MC: No. I have money on my credit card.
  • Victor: Must you always be so insistent?
  • MC: This is important to the life of my company.
  • MC: I have to be an example for the whole staff.
  • Victor: ...
  • Victor: What if I told you the event I want you to go is not the one in France?
  • MC: Are you kidding me?
  • Victor: LFG has another event. A dinner held in conjunction with a fashion magazine. I can send you there.
  • MC: What about France?
  • Victor: That's already been decided?
  • My fists clenched and slowly loosened. I lowered my eyes gloomily.
  • MC: You just don't think I can do it, do you?
  • Victor: What? You still want me to wait and see?
  • I don't know if Victor was doing it on purpose, but I could feel that fighting spirit come back to me.
  • MC: Yes! Wait and see!
  • MC: I'm going to impress you!
  • I pulled out the credit card from my wallet and handed it to the salesperson.
  • MC: Swipe mine, please.
  • I bounded out of the store after paying with my card.
  • I never thought I'd feel such a rush from maxing out a credit card like that.

Expand for Section 4.

I did it. I really did it! All these months of working overnight were not in vain! Victor has no idea how to motivate people, though, giving me the project but still handing me backhanded compliments before he left!

  • One month later~
  • I went into the LFG building along with several distinguished French guests.
  • After a month of hard work, my French had improved quickly.
  • I encountered two French gusts at the gate of LFG.
  • During our chat, I learned that they were sent by a French company in an exchange with LFG.
  • MC: Le bereau du CEO Victor est par ici, veuillez me suivre. (Victor's office is this way.)
  • I tried to talk to them with my two-month-old French. When we reached Victor's office, I knocked on the door.
  • Victor: Come in.
  • I opened the door, smiled and said a few words to the two French men.
  • MC: Je vous accompagne jusqu'ici, bonne aprés-midi. (Have a nice afternoon.)
  • Victor looked up, surprised.
  • I winked at him and left the room.
  • That night, I waited for Victor at the gate of LFG.
  • MC: Bonsoir, Victor. (Good evening, Victor.)
  • I stepped forward and greeted him.
  • Victor: Are you here to show off your French?
  • MC: Not only have I learned French; I'm definitely the person who knows the project best. You can test me!
  • Victor: Save it. I've already heard as much from a lot of people.
  • I gave him a big smile and a gesture of triumph.
  • Victor: Your French works for basic communication, but it's far from proficient.
  • MC: Is it really that much fun tearing me down?
  • Victor: It's kind of entertaining.
  • Victor left. I stuck out my tongue at him.
  • MC: I don't think this guy has ever smiled once in his life.
  • MC: I will never give up, never surrender, Victor!
  • Victor got in the car. His assistant leaned over to him.
  • Goldman: Have you decided who will participate in the event in France? They're asking about it again.
  • Victor remained silent for a while.
  • Victor: MC will go. And arrange an interpreter for her.
  • Goldman: Okay, I'll tell her now.
  • Victor: Mm. Don't drive off yet. I'd like to stay here for this.
  • Goldman: Alright.
  • Goldman dialed my number. He couldn't conceal his delight.
  • Goldman: Good news! Victor has decided to send you to the exchange event in France!
  • Goldman: Yes, really. It's true.
  • Victor watched the girl pick up the phone and saw her eyes sparkle with excitement and happiness.
  • She jumped up and down, attracting stares from people nearby.
  • Goldman: Can we go now?
  • Victor: Let's go.
  • Victor tried to hold back his laughter, but he chuckled as the car drove away.

Goldman said Victor was mad, just because Victor smile to him. A gentle smile doesn't naturally fit in Victor's face.

My last comment to Victor was off-the-cuff that I thought he'd disregard as usual, but it might've actually struck a chord. He's now jovial toward the staff.

It's not my fault. Obviously, a lot of people aren't used to a smiling Victor yet, but this is a lot better than his tyrannical self who could explode at the drop of the hat! I just wanted him to relax more, but he's probably taking it too far...

Expand for Section 4.

At last, everything was done, leaving me with barely enough time for a movie. Then, Victor offered to go with me, and that was when I realized he drank the coffee because he didn't want to hurt my feelings... I got warm and fuzzy all of a sudden.

But the steward brought me right to Victor, who didn't take the news of me traveling with Leo well, even forbidding me from going back to my seat in economy class. What was wrong with him again?

Expand for Section 3.

Watching Victor enjoying a glass of brandy, I told him I'd like to try it too but he shot that down unceremoniously. He seemed so intent on taking charge, yet when a turbulence hit, he held my hand gently and calmed me down. I just don't get him at all.

Expand for Section 4.

I discreetly asked the flight attendant for my own brandy, only to choke on the burning sensation as it went down my throat. How could Victor drink this? And he saw me getting tipsy from one sip. I didn't know whether I heard it wrong or he was drunk too, but did he say he would always be there for me?

Victor has a knack for breaking up my fun. Just when I was about to dig into the strawberry ice cream, his phone call pulled me back to reality.

  • Early in the morning, I was still fast asleep.
  • MC: (Talking in a dream) Strawberry ice cream... I want it...
  • Ring ring!
  • The phone rang.
  • The strawberry ice cream had disappeared from in front of my eyes.
  • Instead, there was just the endless ringing of the phone.
  • I shrugged off the quilt and reached out to get the phone with my eyes closed.
  • On the other end was Victor's low, magnetic voice.

Expand for Section 2.

Maybe he got the wrong number, but he wasn't his normal self, telling me how much he missed me in a soft, sentimental voice that any girl would love to hear.

  • Victor: Are you okay? How've you been lately?
  • His voice was soft. I could hear the fatigue in it.
  • I gave a vague "mmm" in response. I didn't know why he was calling so early.
  • Victor: (Struggling to say something)
  • Victor: How's everything going in France?
  • MC: (Wide awake)
  • France? What? I've never left the country.
  • Victor: I miss you...
  • His voice was full of affection and deep emotion, I couldn't help but feel overcome.
  • MC: !!
  • MC: (Embarrassed) This is MC. Have you dialed the wrong number?
  • Victor: ...
  • After a brief silence, he hung up the phone.
  • I sat dazed for a while holding the phone. It might be a bit awkward next time meet...
  • And I have meetings to attend at LFG today...
  • But Victor is too busy. I probably won't run into him.
  • I tried to comfort myself. Thinking about the meeting, I fell asleep again.

Expand for Section 3.

I tried to avoid him but still bumped into him. He mentioned the call this morning. Recalling his emotional words, I wanted to console him, even though I felt conflicted inside. I told him not to let distance constrain his love, but that infuriated him.

  • (LFG. Outside the elevator.)
  • It was dark by the time I had finished all the meetings and walked out of the meeting room. I was waiting for the elevator.
  • As the doors opened, Victor suddenly appeared before me.
  • Looking at Victor's poker face, I thought to myself I should keep my distance from him.
  • MC: I'll take the next one.
  • Victor: Get on.
  • MC: What?
  • Victor: Get on.
  • MC: Alright.
  • I entered the elevator awkwardly, clutching my notes from the meeting.
  • Victor suddenly pulled the notes out of my hand.
  • MC: This is... the contents of our meeting. Do you want to read it?
  • Victor: No.
  • MC: Then give it back to me.
  • I reached out trying to get it, but Victor held it up high.
  • I stood on my tiptoes to get it, but Victor held it even higher.
  • This man! He does it on purpose!
  • I raised my head and tried to stare down Victor.
  • He arched his eyebrows and looked back at me.
  • Victor: You got a call this morning, didn't you?
  • Thinking of what he said on the phone this morning, my face blushed.
  • MC: Well... Yes, I did.
  • I lowered my head and dared not to look at him. His words were echoing in my mind.
  • Victor: Why won't you look at me?
  • MC: What? Nothing...
  • Victor: What did you hear?
  • MC: Just a few simple sentences. I won't blab to anyone...
  • Victor: ...
  • I looked up. Victor's eyes were shimmering with a bleak light.
  • I couldn't help thinking of what he said. He must be having a tough time... I didn't know what to say.
  • MC: Why don't you go visit her if you miss her so much?
  • MC: As long as the two of you are in love, nothing can get in the way of that.
  • A hint of uncertainty flashed in his eyes.
  • Victor: Love? Do you know what you're talking about?
  • MC: Umm? I don't?
  • MC: Stop being so proud. Expressing what you actually feel is important.
  • Victor opened his mouth but said nothing. I grew even bolder.
  • MC: She must be a beautiful and gentle person. I guess she...
  • Before I could finish, Victor leaned toward me. He reached out his hand and pressed it down on my shoulder.
  • He looked a bit upset, as if what I said offended him.
  • He looked at me carefully for a while. I squirmed in front of his cold eyes.
  • And then he said...
  • Victor: You talk too much.
  • MC: ... You started it.
  • Victor pressed the button for his floor. I pressed the first floor. I couldn't wait to leave.
  • Victor: You, come with me.
  • MC: But I have something else to do.
  • MC: I don't have the time.
  • Victor: Are you mad at me?
  • I felt confused at Victor's sudden change of expression.
  • MC: (Dazed) Mad? At what?
  • Victor had me walk out of the elevator with him.

Expand for Section 4.

It wasn't until later when I found out he misdialed the number of his clearly departed mother. Seeing the loneliness on his face, I got this sudden urge to embrace him. But he asked me if the call was for another unrelated woman instead, would I say the same thing to him?

  • (Rooftop at night)
  • We were on the top floor of LFG, a spacious rooftop.
  • It was dark out. I could see the stars and the moon in the sky clearly.
  • Victor leaned against the railing, holding his chin in his hand. He seemed to be thinking.
  • Victor: This morning, I called my mother.
  • Victor: She went abroad many years ago, and my father said that she went to France.
  • Victor: But she's never came back since then.
  • MC: Your mother?
  • Somehow I feel greatly relieved when I learn this.
  • MC: Maybe she's settled overseas. Don't you want to see her?
  • Victor: I can't go to see her anymore. She's passed away.
  • MC: ...
  • MC: I'm sorry.
  • Victor: But I still call her and tell her the things that have happened to me recently.
  • Victor looked out over the railing as he spoke. My heart grew soft as I looked at him.
  • At this moment, he was no longer the fiercly-demanding boss he usually was. I stood closer to him.
  • MC: She can hear you. I'm sure of it.
  • I looked at Victor and spoke firmly. Victor turned and looked at me quietly. His dark eyes sparkling with a delicate light.
  • I suddenly thought of something. I took out a doll from my purse which I'd always carried around with me and handed it to Victor.
  • MC: This is a gift my father gave me when I was five years old. It has been with me for many years.
  • MC: It's old, but it's shared in many joys and sorrows with me. I want to give it to you.
  • Victor glanced at me and took the doll. It took him a long time to speak again.
  • Victor: You're so understanding of others. You always are.
  • MC: Isn't that a good thing?
  • Victor: You tried to encourage me when you thought I was courting another woman.
  • MC: Umm... That was a total misunderstanding. My bad.
  • Victor: When will you finally get it?
  • Victor: If I was actually calling another woman and not my mother, are you sure you would want to encourage me?
  • MC: If you're in love with each other, why not?
  • He became a bit impatient.
  • He came close to me and put his hand on my back. I'm shocked, unable to move.
  • Victor: You are so slow.
  • MC: Am... Am I...?
  • Victor: I wouldn't go near another woman.
  • MC: (Nervous) ...
  • Victor: All I want is you...
  • Victor: ... Never mind... I'm the one to blame since I fell for a silly girl like you.
  • Victor: Don't try to set me up with anyone else. Do you enjoy it when I get mad?
  • MC: N-- No...
  • Victor: It doesn't matter. I can be patient. I'll wait for you to see the light.

Victor let me acclimate myself in the shallow end, and he even threw me a swimming ring. It was printed with a childish design, and to be honest I didn't feel like accepting it.

Expand for Section 3.

Under Victor's instruction, I began to initiate myself in the art of swimming. I didn't expect that as soon as he let go, I would instantly be floundering around chaotically...

Victor fetched my pendant from the water and then threatened to only return it after I learned to swim. I panicked and immediately went after him, totally forgetting that I was standing on the slippery ceramic floor. When he called out to me in warning, I had already slipped and lost my balance..

Cruise Date[]

Unlocked after obtaining Victor: Guidance, Victor: Delicacies or Victor: Sentimental Attachment. Requires Lv.8 intimacy.

Victor invited me to a cruise. For the first time, I boarded a cruise ship, opened my heart to him and found him so gentle.

Expand for Section 1.

The cruise was a dream vacation... until Victor went missing.

  • Kiki: Here! This is the best angle!
  • Willow: Look at the camera, guys.
  • Kiki: Three, two, one...
  • MC: Wait! Where is Victor?
  • Victor gave us a holiday after all the long, busy work hours. Willow, Kiki and I decided to take a trip together.
  • Unable to decide on a destination, we gladly accepted when Victor invited us on a luxury cruise.
  • We went on a selfie-snapping spree as soon as we boarded, completely forgetting Victor's existence.
  • Kiki: Did the CEO get lost or something?
  • Willow: Not everyone gets lost as easily as you, Kiki. He's probably off dealing with business.
  • Kiki: After all, he's got a whole big company to manage. Isn't he so cool?
  • Willow: Geez, stop drooling over our boss!
  • Willow: Don't worry, MC. We can go search for him together.
  • He might have gotten separated from us in the crowd.
  • I decided to just go look for him alone so that my friends could have time to enjoy themselves.
  • MC: I'll be right back. Have fun!

Expand for Section 2.

I set off to find him alone so as not to spoil the trip for others, and spotted him reading a magazine by the pool. I just couldn't help but get angry at his smug face.

  • The sunshine, the ocean breeze, the cruise ship...
  • Everything feels just perfect.
  • I found Victor reading a finance magazine on a poolside lounge chair.
  • Noticing me sit down beside him -- cutting off his source of sunlight -- he looked up at me.
  • I made a face at him.
  • MC: We were wondering where you've gone!
  • Victor frowned and snatched the bag of chips I'd just bought out of my arms.
  • Victor: You shouldn't eat junk like that.
  • MC: You must lead a very boring life.
  • Victor: So a non-boring life means eating snacks all day?
  • MC: I don't eat them all day...
  • I scowled and put down the chips, enjoying the breeze. I always feel at peace when I'm with Victor.
  • MC: It's so beautiful. I wish I could live this moment forever.
  • I couldn't help exclaiming as I took in the lovely view.
  • Victor: Why?
  • MC: Because the scenery is beautiful.
  • Victor: I still didn't catch that.
  • MC: ...
  • I'm already speaking loudly enough, I think...
  • Victor let out a small chuckle, the corners of his lips lifting slightly.
  • What? Was what I said that funny? I finally catch on as I notice the sly glint in his eyes.
  • MC: So you kept making me repeat the same words even though you heard them just fine?
  • Victor: Yeah, I heard them loud and clear.
  • Victor smiled even wider. I have to admit he looks rather nice smiling.
  • He blinked, and I noticed something stuck on his eyelashes, glittering under the sunlight.
  • So I leaned over -- close enough to count his lashes -- but as I did so I forgot why.
  • Victor: Penny for your thoughts?
  • Victor brushed his fingers through my hair. I lost the ability to speak as our eyes met.
  • He smiled once more, brushing the loose strands out of my eyes.
  • MC: I was thinking... you look really good when you smile...
  • MC: Uh, I mean, nothing! Pretend I never said that!
  • I covered my mouth, turning my face away in embarrassment.
  • Just in time, I spotted my friends in the distance and quickly waved them over. My saviors.
  • MC: Kiki! Willow! Over here!
  • But those traitors passed right by without sparing us a glance.
  • Kiki: Where did boss go? Can't find her anywhere.
  • Willow: She's probably gone to one of the restaurants. You know how much she loves food.
  • They walked off, completely ignoring my existence.
  • MC: Hey, I'm right here...
  • MC: I need better friends.

Expand for Section 3.

Felt like Victor was an entirely different person today, as if it was someone else in his skin. He was the polar opposite of the meticulous president of the company he had been. I believe behind that stuffy title he is just a big aloof boy with a heart of gold.

  • After dinner, the two troublemakers locked me out of the room, so I somehow ended up back on the deck.
  • Victor was there too, strolling under the orange sunset.

Expand for Section 4.

Victor must have either read my romance novels or learn it online to rattle off lines like that! Or maybe he got hacked... I don't know, but I couldn't help but turn into a babbling mess in front of him.

Doomsday Date[]

Unlocked after obtaining Victor: Gentle Confrontation. Requires Lv.8 intimacy.

The flight was canceled. Victor failed to book a room, so I let him stay in my room. I got to know more about him that day.

Expand for Section 1.

Because of the storm causing flights to be cancelled, I booked a room at the hotel airport; and I also ran into a soaking-wet Victor, himself unable to book a room. I invited him to my room to dry himself off. He hesitated a bit but finally accepted.

Expand for Section 2.

To drown out the sound of the rain outside, I decided to turn on some music. Oddly enough, Victor also went along with my suggestion. I slowly inched closer, and he didn't seem to pull away... although I really don't know what's going on in his head. Does he like me or hate me?

Expand for Section 3.

The rained fell heavier and heavier, and suddenly the lights in the room went out. In the darkness, I was falling into a full-blown panic, but then suddenly, a firm pair of hands held me still. It was Victor. He was comforting me in a low voice, his hands caressing my shoulders. It was a tenderness I had never seen before. The wind outside blew stronger and stronger, but his baritone voice and his warm hands made me feel safe.

Expand for Section 4.

When the lights came back on, we played Truth or Dare. Because I was playing a bit unfair, he seemed a little unhappy... I really wanted to make him like me more, to confess what was in his heart under such romantic circumstances. Victor's answer made my heart race. Was he sincere? And was he serious about the "end of the world" promise he made?

The circus is in town and of course I'm too busy to go! Just as I'm seething with resentment, I get a phone call...

Expand for Section 1.

World-famous Astra Circus is coming to Loveland, and I didn't get tickets! I felt I had nothing left to live for, but two days before the show Victor invited me to go with him.

  • 5 seconds to go!
  • MC: Do you think we should refresh?
  • MC: Aaah, it's started--
  • MC: Purchase failed? 0 tickets left!
  • MC: No! Freaking! Way!
  • Kiki: Boss, don't get all worked up. There were only a few thousand tickets. There must been a million scalpers...
  • Willow: But it really is too bad you missed out. With these world tours that they do, who knows when they'll come to Loveland again.
  • The world-famous circus group Astra Circus was coming to Loveland City, and I had my alarm set to snag tickets from the first day I saw their poster.
  • Today, bright and early, I was on their website with my phone number and address all filled in, hovering over the refresh button in rapt attention for two hours--
  • I even made a post on social media wishing for good luck just before!
  • I dejectedly took out my phone and made another post.
  • "Astra Circus is in town and I couldn't get tickets! This sucks!" Posted along with a sadpuppyface.jpg
  • MC: Forget it! After I'm done with this work, I'll fly to Las Vegas to see them perform!
  • Kiki: You're saying there's gonna be a day when this work is done?
  • Willow: Boss, this is the proposal for the new project. You need to read it over today.
  • Anna: This is the contract extension with the distributor. Look it over. If there are no problems, we'll sign it and mail it out today.
  • MC: ...
  • A month later, when I was up to my eyeballs getting work done in time before the New Year, I got a call from Victor.
  • Victor: Come see a show with me this Saturday evening.
  • MC: What show?
  • Victor: Saturday evening. What show do you think?
  • MC: …!
  • MC: Astra Circus? For real?
  • MC: You got tickets?
  • Victor: LFG is the venue sponsor for the show.
  • MC: So baller...
  • Victor: So do you wanna go or not?
  • MC: Yes! Yes, I do!
  • Victor: Okay. I'll pick you up Saturday afternoon. Bye.

Expand for Section 2.

On the way to the show, Victor-- exhausted from travel-- fell asleep, and I put my coat over him. After he woke, he was afraid I was cold and gave me his scarf...

  • Saturday afternoon, Victor came to pick me up as arranged.
  • As usual, he said nothing after I got in the car, either looking down at his phone from time ot time or staring out the window.
  • But I got the feeling that he seemed a bit fatigued today...
  • I turned my head and surreptitiously eyed Victor.
  • He quickly sensed my gaze and looked at me with lowered eyes.
  • MC: Did you not get any sleep last night?
  • Victor pursed his slightly, and I couldn't tell if he was smiling or not.
  • Just when he was about to say something, the phone in his hand suddenly started vibrating.
  • Knowing that now wasn't the time, I decided to stay quiet.
  • Even if it wasn't on purpose, I could clearly hear every word Victor was saying.
  • This was an overseas call from Liverpool, and from the sound of it Victor had just met in person with the caller yesterday. But to come back from Liverpool...
  • ...would take over a dozen hours at least?
  • When Victor hung up, I seemed to understand where that run-down look on his face was from.
  • MC: Was your meeting in Liverpool yesterday quite important?
  • Victor: It was set up 6 months in advance.
  • MC: If you schedule is so full, you don't need to come back just to go to a show with me...
  • Victor: How I arrange my own schedule is my business. I don't need a dummy like you looking out for me.
  • The car gradually slowed to a crawl, and a long line of red tail lights stretched out as far as the eye could see.
  • MC: We're in a total traffic jam, and there's still one hour before we arrive. Why don't you sleep?
  • As I asked, I thought he'd definitely say he wasn't tired. To my surprise, Victor thought it over and then agreed.
  • Victor: Sure.
  • He put his phone back in his pocket, leaned his head back, and slowly closed his eyes.
  • Not long after, his breathing gradually evened out.
  • He really was sound asleep, huh?
  • I hesitantly took off my coat to cover him with, but I couldn't help staring for a bit at his profile, thinner than usual.
  • MC: (Whisper) Rest up...
  • When that, I plopped my chin in my hand and looked ahead at the stream of cars moving at a snail's pace. In the warmth of the car, I somehow managed to zone out.
  • When I snapped to, we had already arrived at the venue.
  • As I was hesitating whether or not to wake Victor, he had already opened his eyes. In one motion, he took my coat and put it back on me.
  • Victor: If you catch cold, someone will have to take care of you again...
  • As he spoke, he got out of the car first. As I was about to follow him, Victor suddenly paused.
  • He turned to look at me, then turned around, stooped back into the car, and put his scarf around my neck.
  • MC: Huh? No thanks...
  • Not waiting for me to finish, Victor took me by the hand and pulled me out of the car. But, when I saw the scene before me, I instantly forgot about what I was going to say.
  • An enormous blue and yellow tent was ringed with rows of colored lights. Bizarrely-dressed performers with unique, exotic voices let loose hearty bursts of laughter.
  • The entire night was filled with a carnival atmosphere, filling me with excitement.
  • MC: It was like we'd entered a fantasy world...
  • Victor: Let's go in.
  • I followed Victor through ticket check to our seats. Our VIP seats were only two meters from the stage, and looking up I could see a thin tightrope wire.
  • Watching the tightrope act from this angle... is probably even more nerve-wracking.
  • Soon after we got seated, the curtain on the stage slowly rose.
  • The sound of an oncoming storm played over the speakers, and all the lights gradually faded. I could faintly make out that a "black cloud" had enveloped the top row of seats.
  • Suddenly, several bolts of lightening pierced through the darkness, exploding in front of us with a bang.
  • At that moment, the hand that had been holding mine since the start suddenly gripped tighter.
  • Could it be...?
  • I turned to glance at Victor, but the look on his face was as unperturbed as ever.
  • I guess I was too clumsy with my effort to sneak a glance, and I was quickly found out.
  • Victor: What? Am I really more interesting to look at than the show?
  • That familiar warmth, that familiar touch. Even in the gloomy lights, I seemed to see a tiny smile on the lips of the person next to me.
  • MC: Y-- you... hmph.
  • At that moment the "black cloud" dispersed. A host of acrobats at some point had snuck in among the crowd and now "flew" toward the stage over our heads across the tightrope wire--
  • The crowd burst into applause.
  • I also wanted to clap, but I found that Victor kept his hold on my hand, with absolutely no intention of letting go.
  • He had one hand under his chin, enjoying the show, and one hand clasped tightly around mine, wrapping my five frozen fingers in his warm palm.
  • A hint of warmth spread over my heart, but seeing the earnest look on Victor's face, I couldn't help feeling a different emotion.
  • MC: Victor...can I ask you a question?
  • Victor looked at me and raised his brow slightly.
  • I held back a laugh, cleared my throat and spoke in dead seriousness.
  • MC: Won't your arm get tired like this?
  • Victor: ...Quiet.
  • He may have told me to be quiet, but he actually did keep this same posture throughout the entire show.
  • I'm not sure if it was from the air conditioning, or the constant heat from Victor's hand, but my ears gradually turned red.

Expand for Section 3.

The circus had ended, but the night was just beginning. I dragged Victor around buying all kinds of circus trinkets and snacks, and then a rose stall caught my eye...

  • When we left the show, I suddenly realized, although the show had ended, the carnival was just beginning.
  • In all directions around the main tent were lines of themed streets, selling all kinds of magic props, t-shirts, and strange-looking snacks.
  • Amidst the bustling crowd, the wintry cold night was suffused with warmth.
  • I dragged Victor by the hand to line up at the myriad of stalls of "strange snacks" set up everywhere.
  • A few minutes prior, much to Victor's incredulity, I bought a box of something called "demon blood noodles".
  • The noodles in the box glowed black and green, and for a moment I wasn't sure if my curiosity or my fear of "dark arts cuisine" would win out.
  • MC: Can you really eat this?
  • It wasn't boiled with indigo root, right...
  • Victor: Weren't you saying just now how hungry you were?
  • MC: (Whisper) Yeah, it's true...
  • I braced myself and picked up a noodle strand, tentatively taking a tiny bite.
  • MC: Not bad! It's cuttlefish noodles!
  • Victor: Wellwhat did you think it was? Actually boiled in demon's blood?
  • MC: The light's dim. All I can see is a black glob...
  • Victor looked ambivalently at me. He snatched the napkin our of my hand, dabbed the corner of my mouth, and then stuffed the sauce stained napkin back in my hand.
  • Seeing Victor empty-handed like this, something finally clicked in my mind.
  • MC: Victor... do you want something to eat yourself?
  • Victor: Not hungry.
  • MC: Maybe some bubble milk tea?
  • Victor: Milk mixed with artificial flavourings is supposed to be good?
  • MC: ...
  • What is the deal with this guy! He's at a carnival! Doesn't he want to live a little?!
  • I supposed what I was thinking was plain as day on my face, and Victor let out a chuckle.
  • Victor: I'll give you one chance to treat me to something.
  • Off in the distance, I saw one particularly crowded stall.
  • MC: Leave this to me~
  • When I squeezed my way through the crowds and back to Victor's side, I was holding a stick of candied fruit.
  • MC: Here ya go! Not too filling, and it's all-natural!
  • Victor: ...
  • Because of what he said before, Victor basically couldn't refuse. He could only furrow his brow and bend over to accommodate my height.
  • His cheek was bulging with a whole ball of candied fruit, making him seem much cuter than usual.
  • MC: Good?
  • With me just watching him, Victor shifted the hunk of candy in his mouth to his other cheek and only spoke again once he'd eaten the whole thing.
  • Victor: It's fine.
  • MC: Oh, come on...
  • If that's not good, then why was the line so long?!
  • Victor: Taste for yourself.
  • I tried a bite of the candied fruit. The sweet candy juice burst inside my mouth, melding with the tartness of the fruit, a perfect blend of sweet and sour.
  • MC: This is totally delicious!
  • I patted my cheek to congratulate myself on my own good taste, but I could see a mocking look in Victor's eye.
  • Victor: ...What're you, a squirrel?
  • MC: You... I...!
  • Suddenly, a gust of wind blew from behind, getting some of my hair stuck to the candy...
  • As I hastily brushed my hair back behind my ears, I could feel how hot they were to the touch.
  • MC: Um... I'll go buy another one.
  • After the slightest of sighs, Victor stooped down again and took another bite.
  • As he walked off eating the candy, he grabbed my empty hand and took me off in the opposite direction of the stalls.
  • Victor: Let's go.
  • Victor's voice sounded a bit muffled, and I wasn't sure if it was because his mouth was full or because he was stifling a laugh.
  • And like that, Victor and I took turns taking bites until the whole stick of candied fruit was gone.
  • Who knows if it was the delicious treat, or the fact that I did the treating, but for the next hour, Victor was in noticeably good spirits.
  • Not only did he have a relaxed smile, but he was also willing to wait in long lines with me to play childish games.
  • It was like... he would say yes to anything I'd ask.
  • And just then, a little fresh flower stand appeared before me.
  • The bouquets of flowers looked particularly dazzling under the dim lights, and for some reason, a question just popped straight into my head.
  • MC: Victor, you've never given a girl roses before, have you?
  • As soon as I asked, I felt that something was off.
  • Victor: Huh? So?
  • MC: Oh, I didn't--
  • But, without giving me a chance to take it back, Victor marched off toward the stand and picked out the freshest rose in the bunch.
  • Victor's hand paused in the air for a few seconds as he held the rose by the stem, inspecting it with a hint of amusement in his eye.
  • Under the golden light, his hair was also tinged and looked as soft as honey.
  • I spaced out for a moment, up until he took my hand and placed the rose in it.
  • Victor: You were saying?
  • MC: ...
  • I fell silent, somehow felling like I'd done something wrong. Before I'd had a chance to tease out the implications of his response, he hit me with another bombshell.
  • Victor: Do you know what accepting this rose from me implies?
  • Victor spoke measuredly and with a solemn face, but his tone was dripping with sarcasm. I was fixed in place, my cheeks flushing, unable to utter a word.
  • MC: I... I...
  • Not knowing how to react, all I could think of was to fight fire with fire!
  • MC: Then I'm going to give you a flower too!
  • However, Victor just smirked, grabbed me by the hand, and led me away from the stand.
  • Victor: No need.

Expand for Section 4.

Naturally I had to reciprocate for Victor's rose, but he helped me buy the "Shiba Inu candy" I liked. Not to be defeated, I bought some candy from a nearby stall for him.

  • As we walked, the crowd got thicker, and Victor held on to my hand more tightly, not letting me get more than half a step from him.
  • I looked all around me, wanting to check out all the stuff I saw at every stall.
  • But each time Victor felt the slightest pause in my step, he immediately pulled me along with him.
  • Victor: Watch where you're going.
  • It's not that I wasn't paying attention, but ever since Victor gave me that rose, I'd been thinking over that question.
  • My instinct was that accepting the rose from Victor meant I should return the favor with some "grand gesture"...
  • But the whole way, all I saw were magician's hats, printed t-shirts, and other stuff that he had absolutely no interest in.
  • Up until a candy store appeared before me.
  • This hand crafted candy shop was probably the most popular store in the whole street.
  • Lots of customers were packing the narrow aisles and placing all kinds of exquisitely-made candies into their shopping baskets.
  • MC: So many people...
  • But, judging by Victor's expression, he clearly wasn't willing to brave the crowds.
  • Perhaps I could find a good thank you gift in here... The rose aside, I should thank him just for taking me to see Astra Circus.
  • MC: Wait for me. I'll be back in a jiffy.
  • With that, I hurried into the store.
  • The tops of the shelves were packed with tons of different cartoon character candies, and I took a fancy to a "Shiba Inu" one.
  • But the shelf was higher than I'd imagined. I stretched out my arm and couldn't reach it...
  • Even on the tips of my toes, I still couldn't reach...
  • A crowd pressed in from behind me, and I was soon swept away from the shelf. When I tried to turn back, I couldn't even squeeze my way through.
  • MC: Hi, excuse me...
  • I wanted to ask a store clerk for help, but they were all too busy. Everyone was lined up to buy things. The nearest clerk even saw me waving and totally ignored me.
  • Just as I was about to give up, a hand reached out over my head and made off with that "Shiba Inu" candy.
  • MC: Victor?
  • What's he doing in here?
  • Victor: Is this what you're trying to get?
  • I nodded.
  • After paying, as soon as we walked out of the candy shop, Victor handed the candy to me.
  • Here I was trying to get a gift for him, and instead he had to help me buy it...
  • I looked at the lifelike little Shiba Inu in my hand and for a minute I didn't know what to do with it.
  • After hesitating a bit, I finally presented the little Shiba Inu candy before Victor.
  • MC: Actually... I was buying this for you. Thank you for taking me here.
  • Victor's brow raised, and in spite of the touch of surprise on his face, the slight smile in his eyes looked incomparably tender under the warm glow of the lights.
  • Even though he looked a little reluctant, he took the candy from me anyway, and I even made out a trace of a smile on his face.
  • Victor: When it comes to giving gifts, you lack even an ounce of creativity.
  • Originally I was worried Victor wouldn't like it, but now I'd pretty much confirmed that fear was unfounded.
  • MC: Hmph... Anyway the more you like something, the more you won't admit it!
  • Victor: Flawed reasoning.
  • I wanted to comeback by saying he was the flawed one, but just then I caught a glimpse of a lonely stall also selling artisanal little candies...
  • I was immediately hit with a more "creative" plan, hurried over, and quickly bought a pack of fruit gum drops.
  • Victor: Candy again?
  • Victor arched his brows and placed heavy emphasis on the word "again", as if to demonstrate how right his "no creativity" critique was.
  • I peeled open one of the gum drops, and lying inside was a pink heart.
  • MC: Victor, come see. What flavour is this?
  • Of course, Victor came closer.
  • As soon as he opened his mouth, I nimbly popped the heart-shaped candy into his mouth.
  • MC: That's for the rose!
  • MC: I know that it's only a tiny, tiny, tiny token gift... right now I really can't find anything suitable...
  • MC: Your big thank you gift will have to wait for another day.
  • Victor looked at me silently, until I started feeling uneasy, and then I finally heard him softly say--
  • Victor: Childish.
  • MC: How's it taste?
  • Victor: It's fine.
  • Another "fine". But this time I wouldn't "take his bait".
  • MC: Anyway, there's other flavors, like blueberry, pineapple, mint, strawberry... there's gotta be one you'll like~
  • I peeled open another one, and another, and the more I peeled, the more delighted I grew.
  • MC: Look at this one! It looks like a little ghost! Cute, huh?
  • Victor smiled and muttered something.
  • Just then, over the loudspeakers came some familiar music--the theme song of Astra Circus.
  • The boisterous music drowned out Victor's voice. Meanwhile, another commotion came from the center of the street: several clowns leapt from out of nowhere.
  • The clowns were doing card tricks, juggling torches, and taking selfies with the passers-by.
  • Along with the background music, the whole street was coming alive.
  • This seemed to be the climax of the evening. Some people were cheering, and others were dancing and clapping to the music, and some were singing along...
  • Everyone was lost in this final moment of fantasy.
  • Normally I would be itching to get near the clowns and try to get a selfie with them.
  • But now... I looked at Victor beside me. I suddenly felt, all that hooting and hollering was fine and dandy, but it's not the most important thing.
  • The most important thing is...
  • I impulsively slipped my hand inside Victor's and clasped my fingers around his.
  • MC: Victor...
  • Victor: What is it?
  • MC: Nothing. I just suddenly don't want this to end...
  • Looking at Victor's familiar profile, feeling the warmth of his hand, and inexplicable happiness suddenly welled up in my heart.
  • Victor stepped closer to me, and like that, we were so close that I was too shy to look up at him.
  • In an instant, uproar all around us suddenly died off. We were bathed in warm lamplight, and his breath intermingled with mine.
  • I could almost see a spark set off deep in my heart and slowly start to spread like wild fire.
  • He bent over and whispered in my ear, each word landing in my heart loud and clear.
  • Victor: There's always a next time for everything.
  • Victor: So there's no need to feel sad about it ending.
  • The warmth from his lips brushed against my ear, and my heart beat uncontrollably, and even seemed to stop entirely for a moment...
  • I felt like I'd forgotten how to blink, and how to breathe...
  • All the way until he pulled back from me, and even then I could feel his smoldering presence on my skin, keeping me stirred up for a long while.
  • MC: Everything...? And that includes you?
  • Victor seemed taken aback by my question, and his thin lips formed into a tight, handsome smile. The evening breeze tousled his hair, revealing a slightly raised brow.
  • Victor: Dummy...
  • He pulled me into his embrace, sealing me off entirely from the cold wind. In his words, there was a touch of laughter.
  • Victor: There's never an end to you and I, so there's also never a next time.
